Most of the schools today undertake to complete the formal course of studies and prepare the students for the final examinations only. These courses and examinations thereto are memory oriented. The education thus imputed aims at some intellectual skills and develops the lust for wealth and conspicuous consumption. This system of education has developed materialistic and immoral society. The materialism has led to the translation experience, valueless behavior and addicted society. The strangle hold of these can be broken by Indian Education System that is founded on human values and inner self development called - Development of five selves

Great Indian philosophers like Vivekannda, Yogi Arvinanda, Shri. Saneguruji, Archarya Vinoba, S. Radhakrishanan, Pandurnag Shastri of Dnyan Probodhini, Pune have called for total self development through education as a remedy for the ailing society.

Their thoughts are programmed through the Semi-Residential Gurukul, at Karad. The programme follows similar programme launched at Nigadi Pune by Shri. Wamanravaoji Abhyankar. The programme is launched from June 2000 at Karad for 44 students (34 boys and 9 girls) belonging to fifth standard. Progressively it will be extended to tenth standard.

Structure
Every year in the month of May about forty Students progressed to the 5th standard with good academic achievements will be selected through written and oral tests :- followed by a thorough discussion interview where along with intellectual qualities the attitudes of the students, his readiness to exert disciplined mind and co-operation of the parents form basic considerations. At present the entry is restricted to our schools alone.

A separate class of these students is conducted from 7 o' clock in the morning to 7 in the evening. The students are expected to be in the school during these twelve hours. Morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks are served in the school alone. The parents reach a lunch and the school at cost provides the snacks.

Philosophic Bases
Semi residential Gurukul aims at total development of personal qualities of self. Imparting the curricular instructions to the students is one objective, not the only of the school. The foundation of Gurukul is the development of five selves- Spheres of soul; Education is thus a journey towards the self-search. The five spheres are 1. Food based or Body based, 2. System based or Soul based, 3.Psychey based, 4. Intellect based, Scientific based and Bliss based, Satisfaction in totality. The aim of these efforts is to make the students instinctually competent, psychologically stable and alert and alert and culturally humane.

Daylong Annual Programme of Semi-residential Gurukul

Development of food based and soul based spheres to make the body strong and competent these spheres are activated through Omkar, Sun - Postures, Yoga are practiced at 7 in morning with expert guide.

Soul based Development is promoted by Gita recitation. Three cantos are learned by heart in three months with proper chants. For psychological development about half an hour at eight o' clock is spent in Value Education General Knowledge, Environmental out look development and in friendship with mathematics. The students write their understanding of the morning two hours to fix exposure and it is followed by Nursing snacks, served hot..

Intellectual Development

It is the main objective of any school, the teaching of prescribed course is undertaken from 10 o' clock to 13 everyday.

At 13 hours lunch is served together by all with chanting of Shloka's and thanks giving. It brings satisfaction of body, mind and intellect. Lunch is followed by relaxation and a bit of rest.

Exercises set on the topics taught in the forenoon are completed in the school itself from 14 o' clock to 15:30 under the supervision of the teachers.

Later on it is followed by various co-curricular and extra curricular activities like music, English., Marathi, Sanskrit and Hindi conversations. Extra reading, elocution, hobbies and crafts. A number of teachers from our schools have volunteered to assist in the programme.

In the evening after 17 o' clock up to devoted to various games sports, making sons. The day concludes with prayer and national anthem.

In addition to this routine programme, to relate the learning experience to life a variety of activities are programmed, computer learning, and interviews with out-standing players, scientists, engineers, businesspersons and artists are planned. Picnics and study tours are organized and weeklong compare in rural set up is planned. Every student is expected to do project study to learn applications of learning. The first project is in the are to grammar and writing.

Know the motherland
Every year the students are to be taken on trips progressively to the distant and wider fields - within the district, out of the district, out to the division, out side of the state etc.
